CHINESE ARMY BULLET HOLES
In 2009, Secunda travelled to Shanghai. With the help of an interpreter they talked their way into an Army firing range, and persuaded soldiers from the Chinese Army (PLA) to shoot a few sheets of paint for them. The gunfire produced beautiful and compelling flower-like bullet holes, which punched through the sheets of paint. The intention had been to apply geopolitical texture to the works. The bullet holes were more successful than expected, and the shot works made in China instigated an on-going series which has occupied the artist for years, taking him to Afghanistan and Jamaica.
